Tumblon seeks to inform and inspire parents of young children to shape the character and competence of the next generation, through understanding and nurturing their children's growth, and through engaging in the joys of parenting.

Why do we do it?

We created Tumblon because:

1. Parents play the most important role in society. They shape the character, competence and creativity of the next generation.

  • Character: Parents play the definitive role, with their words and actions, in shaping a child's expectations and values.
  • Competence: Parents nuture abilities by engaging and encouraging their children.
  • Creativity: Parents cultivate creative thought and expression by providing opportunities and encouragement for creativity.

2. The first 5 years of life have a profound impact on a child's character, personality, abilities, and health.

  • Character: During the first 5 years, a child develops expectations and values that deeply influence how he relates to other people.
  • Personality: A child's personality and willingness to attempt new activities is developed in relationship with parents who nurture or stifle that expression.
  • Abilities: A child's brain grows from 25 percent to 90 percent of its adult size from birth to age 5. How the brain grows is activity dependent and dramatically influences a child's later learning abilities.
  • Health: Children form nutrition and activity patterns in the first five years that affect brain development and influence later lifestyle choices.

The Parenting Challenge

Parenting is a high calling and a tremendous challenge. Two constraints are particularly pressing. First is time – parents are busy people with many responsibilities. Second is change – children constantly grow and change.

So parents have two major needs when it comes to raising their children – information (what to expect and do at each stage of development) and inspiration (stories that captivate and compel action).

1. Information: Our developmental data is simple, reliable, customized, interactive and actionable. We save parents time by showing the ways their children are changing now. In less than 5 minutes, a parent can know how their children are developing and how to support that growth.

2. Inspiration: Great stories and great literature are inspiring. They capture our imaginations and draw us into action. So we highlight great children's literature for each stage of development to encourage curiosity, creativity and character in children (and their parents); and parents' stories of engaging with and enjoying their children to inspire other parents to creative, intentional engagement with their children.
