This is the child's ability to use small muscles, specifically their hands and fingers, to pick up small objects, hold a spoon, turn pages in a book, or use a crayon to draw.
TIP: This also means that if you have a garbage can with a lid, your child will likely try to lift it. It is wise to keep trash cans out of reach, as your child will both want to reach into the can and put its contents into his mouth.
